"Andre Talks Hair" is an excellent resource for hair care. Andre starts his discussion with two "get to know your hair" chapters. From there, he gradually and simply "talks" good hair care from the perfect cut, to using chemicals to caring for gray hair (my issue), to dealing with hair that as been damaged,and of course, a chapter discussing how to take your hair into your own hands and doing the job yourself (which is where I am at this time). Yes, he does do a great job on coloring one's hair. It is not an "ethnic" haircare book. Every lady, regardless of her ethnicity, will find her hair in this book. A great read and a great price. Oh yes, the foreword by Oprah Winfrey is a great stamp of approval!Andre Talks Hair!

I almost missed this book because I thought it was primarily for African-American women. I learned that all the years of longing for my hair to look a certain way were wasted - because I'll never have that look without a lot of work every single day. Such a relief to learn I wasn't crazy - and a gift to get specific recommendations about how I could work with it successfully. And, if you have wiry or curly hair, this book is a MUST> I purchased this copy to give to a friend, and I'm sure she'll be thrilled as much as I am.

Was Britain wrong to have entered WW1?Niall Ferguson is not just a contrarian thinker, he's a brilliant thinker. Whether you agree with him or not, his wiring is never boring or unoriginal.Fritz Fischer, the famous German historian, put forward his thesis in the 1970s on the causes of World War 1. He squarely placed the blame on Germany for its aggression, creating a naval arms race with Britain, engaging France in Morocco, providing a blank check to Austria and supporting Austrian annexation of Bosnia. In fact, I even clearly remember from my school days in the 90s - answering the causes of WW1 by listing the many German provocations that led to it. For a long time it seems the Fischer thesis has been widely accepted across the world as the basis for how WW1 is taught in schools and understood by the public.Ferguson has taken a hammer to the dominant thinking of WW1. Ferguson puts the blame squarely on Britain for escalating the war. The evidence he presents is: 1) German policies and objectives; 2) Britain's decision making.Based on Ferguson's analysis of the documents, Germany was largely interested in Russia and had no interest to escalate the war beyond the continent. Additionally, Britain entered the war and made it a global conflict. He also debunks the notion that a great war must have great causes. He writes that German imperialism was not at odds with Britain, and that the two were able to amicably settle disputes. Moreover, he debunks Fischer's naval arms race theory by showing that the naval arms race between Britain and Germany was mostly over by 1912.The reader may not be fully persuaded by Ferguson's assertion that Germany had very limited ambition in 1914 and that continental hegemony was certainly not on the cards. Many historians such as Max Hastings, Margaret McMillan have countered Ferguson on this point.So why did Britain enter the war? Ferguson says it has little to do with this treaty concerning Belgium's neutrality. Ferguson contends that the liberal government in Britain is facing electoral defeat and the foreign secretary Sir Edward Grey and Winston Churchill are able to convince a majority that intervention is necessary. For instance, Edward Grey says he will resign if Britain does not interfere because he has given his word to the French that Britain will join the war effort. If Grey does resign, it could end up toppling the government. So Ferguson argues that Britain entered the war so that its weak government can continue to stay in power -- to keep their jobs and keep the conservatives out of office.Finally, Ferguson's counterfactual arguments are very interesting to read and have certainly generated a fair share of controversy. He believes that had Britain stayed out of the war, Germany would have won and Europe would be not very different than it is today, with a common market that is powered by a dominant German economy. While some may scorn counterfactual history, Ferguson astutely builds his case, anchored on first-rate research and analysis.Ferguson has no sacred cows and takes no prisoners....that's what makes him the most brilliant historian of his generation and his books are certainly worth reading, even if you may not always agree with his conclusions.

I have loved everything I've read by Ferguson, so when I came across this older history of WWI, I grabbed it. At over 400 pages, it is not to be taken lightly, but for the history buff, it is well worth your time. Ferguson's grandfather served through the war w2ith a Highland regiment, and survived. Scotland had a higher casualty rate than every county except Serbia and Turkey. This book is not so much about the fighting as about the political, economic and morale factors that went into it. His excellent research turns most of the conventional wisdom of WWI on its head. He believes Germany went to war because they felt weak, not military strong, and thought the imbalance was growing. His review of the differing economic and financial power of the central powers versus the allies suggests the Allies should have won much sooner. But Germany made better use of it's resources, and the Germans killed the allies at a much higher rate, meaning the French and British strategy of attrition worked against them. He suggests that Germans were not starved into defeat by the blockade and that it wasn't war reparations but economic mismanagement that led to the collapse of the Weimar Republic leading to the Nazis. You cannot but help learn a great deal from this well-written volume. As a bonus for me, i discovered the poems of Ewart Alan Mackintosh, an officer in a Scottish regiment who was killed in 1917. Then will come at last the true Empire of Peace, with our Lord Jesus Christ as ruler!’’’Only the English?“As Klaus Vondung has argued, there was an apocalyptic quality to the German 1914. But not only the German. ‘Like most people of my generation’, H. G. Wells had written in 1906, ‘I was launched into life with millennial assumptions . . . There would be trumpets and shoutings and celestial phenomena, a battle of Armageddon and the Last Judgement.’”H.G. Wells!“And how like Armageddon it proved . . .“There were voices, and thunders, and lightnings; and there was a great earthquake, such as was not since men were upon the earth, so mighty an earthquake and so great. And the great city was divided into three parts, and the cities of the nations fell: and great Babylon came in remembrance before God, to give unto her the cup of the wine of the fierceness of his wrath. And every island fled away, and the mountains were not found. And there fell upon men a great hail out of heaven . . . and men blasphemed God because of the plague of the hail; for the plague thereof was exceeding great.’’ Revelation 16:18-21(This passage does not refer to Armageddon. Armageddon is the complete destruction/removal of the political system. Nevertheless, this prophecy does symbolically describe world events after 1914.)Ferguson sees reason to connect this vision with what the world saw after 1914. Who can deny it?Introduction . . .“My approach is analytical. There are ten questions which I attempt to answer:1 Was the war inevitable, whether because of militarism, imperialism, secret diplomacy or the arms race?2. Why did Germany’s leaders gamble on war in 1914?3. Why did Britain’s leaders decide to intervene when war broke out on the Continent?4. Was the war, as is often asserted, really greeted with popular enthusiasm?5. Did propaganda, and especially the press, keep the war going, as Karl Kraus believed?6. Why did the huge economic superiority of the British Empire not suffice to inflict defeat on the Central Powers more quickly and without American intervention?7. Why did the military superiority of the German army fail to deliver victory over the British and French armies on the Western Front, as it delivered victory over Serbia, Rumania and Russia?8. Why did men keep fighting when, as the war poets tell us, conditions on the battlefield were so wretched?9. Why did men stop fighting?10. Cowen and Holl are probably my favorite characters in this series, bar none. I loved how they played off one another to both irritate and challenge to be better. I liked that Holl was entirely capable of taking care of himself in pretty much all situations, and that Cowen both knew that, and, while he wasn't happy to, didn't try to impose some helpless paradigm onto his mate.

Hollyster and, growly, Cowen, were simply delightful. They grew to know each other, love each other and then they walked straight into danger. The story definitely held my attention and I found it to be very enjoyable, just like all of this author's books. :)

The playful interactions were really good. Since it is short it was nice to focus pretty much just on them, they could support more narratives, too. It was really nice to have a human chosen who was more than equal to the shifters. And Cowan knew he had to let Hollyster do his dangerous job because he was good at it. It was also nice that Holl figured out right away they were mates and wasn't 'I'm not worthy', but instead was 'this is mine, awesome'. The sex was good too, both enthusiastic and Holl topping until Cowan could claim him after the job was done. Not as many incorrect words this time, but sometimes Cowan said he was a lion and sometimes cougar.

I have liked the chosen series thus far minus a few hiccups, but this couple really has that spark. I would like to read more about this couple. The only things I didn't like was that it finished too quickly and that they let those dirtbags live. I can't get enough of this couple and looking forward to reading how the big boss and his inside person will work into the chosen series. So I'm guessing at least 20 or 21 books in this series wink 😉

I loved this book. As I have all in the chosen series, but I adored Hollyster! He was hilarious, describing the various scowls of Cowen.

I liked this one a lot. It was pretty funny. And sweet. The leap wasn’t in it but the chosen story was continued significantly. New characters were introduced and I’m excited for the next book in the chosen story. I’d recommend it just like I recommend all of her books.

I liked this book. I liked this couple. It was so much fun to read this one. Cowen and Hollyster were interesting to watch. Highly recommend

My young family is enjoying trying new techniques using this step-by-step guide that makes creating watercolor flowers accessible to a wide range of skill and confidence levels, particularly as the illustrations and instructions are very clear and simple. Before using this book, we hadn't really found a watercolor guide that worked well for us, so it's been delightful to see the new watercolor experiments and creations in our home. Bley demonstrates how to mix the colors and water in different ways to achieve lovely effects, and she gives specific instructions, of course with pictures, for using the brush to make different shapes. Her plethora of examples is stunning, so the book is also just enjoyable to peruse. (Our family is blessed to know Bley in real life and has enjoyed seeing her art in various forms -- always lovely and cheery!)

This is a pretty book, and the author has a beautiful style. I expected it to be a guide to painting different types of flowers, but it is much more general and aimed at true beginners and crafters. There are only three flowers presented specifically (rose, zinnia, and foxglove). The other flowers in the book go unnamed. I would have liked to learn about more specific flowers with their foliage and techniques for painting them in the author's lovely, expressive style. The author leaves it to the reader to find gardening books and other source materials for flower specifics. This would be a good book for a beginner wanting to learn basic techniques or for someone who wants lots of examples of loose, stylized florals, but don't expect it to go deeply into flower varieties and anatomies. It also includes craft projects and techniques (picture frame, collage, lettering, stamping, incorporating tissue paper), should those interest you, as well as some discussion of color theory and tips for choosing colors.

On every page, it inspires the reader to grab a paintbrush and begin to create a masterpiece of his or her own. The artwork in the book is exquisite. It is lovely in every possible way.

This book is lovely! I just started watercolor a little under a year ago and this book is wonderful. It has great instructions and inspiration to get you quickly making wonderful bouquets of watercolor flowers. I think it is great for someone brand new or someone who has been painting a while. Just flipping through the pages will make you smile.

The art is simply beautiful and the narrative is crystal clear. The creative projects will draw you in and the encouragement and positive tone will keep you going. There are creative tips for ‘budding artists’ and for teachers in this wonderfully helpful guide.
