I’m glad this book exists. The stories related by these older burlesque performers should be captured for posterity. But much of the book—the first half—is quite dry and academic. I understand that the author’s intention was to examine burlesque through a lens of sociology and anthropology and to compare and contrast it with the neo-burlesque movement, which presents itself differently and may indulge in a fair amount of historical revision. I would have enjoyed the book more if it had more first-person accounts from the dancers, more anecdotes and origin stories, more interviews in general. But I’m glad this book exists and I’ll be delighted to keep it on my coffee table.

If I would’ve seen this in a store I wouldn’t buy it. Lots of wasted space on headings and margins, so the actual squares for writing appointments, etc, each day are very small and impractical. Most pocket calendars have a plastic cover, this is paper only. The binding does not allow it to lie flat when open. These are just as cheap at a drugstore, so next time I’ll definitely go to Walgreens instead of ordering sight unseen.

Though I am only about halfway through the book, I wanted to write my review now, as I am enjoying it so much. I have read all of Cathy Glass's novels and looking forward to more coming out. I have really learned a lot about the fostering and adopting system through her books. Maybe the reason for my interest is due to my husband growing up as a foster child until he was adopted. I just wish he would have been blessed with someone like Cathy, as his experienced were not positive at all. Cathy has fostered so many children and helped so many lives. Her own children have grown into young adults, and are a fine result of Cathy's raising, pretty much as a single mother for most part. This book begins after the funeral of Cathy's father. I have gotten to know her mother and father too throughout the books and I actually felt sad for "Gramps" death.. In Cathy's books, you feel like you personally know the main characters. I think that's what I enjoy most about her writing, is her style of description and letting the reader "feel" the events and know the characters. I'm sure I am going to love the second half of this book as much as the first.

This was a good Cathy Glass book. I am a fan, and do prefer her memoirs about children or teens, but it was interesting to read how she and her family dealt with Faye, an adult with disabilities and who was pregnant. The story was full of the details I love in CG's books, and the story very touching.It was sad to learn about the death of Cathy's dear father and the effect on the family. How Cathy dealt with Faye was very caring, patient and kind. She is a wonderful example to all of us in how anyone who is a little different should be treated. The story ends well, although I was expecting perhaps more 'drama.' but it's real life, so that's how it was ! Can't wait for CG's next book!

Another wonderful true story from foster carer, Cathy Glass. Cathy's patience and compassion is on full display as she deals with a young woman who is slow due to having fetal alcohol syndrome. The young woman comes into Cathy's care when it is discovered that she is pregnant. A very hard decision has to be made on whether or not the baby should kept by the mother or placed for adoption. I had no idea which decision would be made and couldn't put this book down til I found out what happened to both mother and baby.

Cathy Glass doesn't disappoint and Can I Let You Go? isn't an exception. The story of Faye and her baby brings the reader to a somewhat surprising conclusion as well as proving a totally absorbing read. It's the kind of "can't put it down" read which makes the world a little kinder. I always enjoy also the picture postcard of modern British life which Cathy's books present.

Cathy Glass has never been one to disappoint. This is by far her finest work ever. I was captivated at the beginning, shedding tears at the end. Faye's bravery and selflessness made for a real tear jerker. I highly recommend this book!

I really enjoyed reading this book. The young girl ended up with more insight than anyone and her journey and strong love for her baby made me cry. Beautifully told story
