Unique and precious, this is a very valuable work that finally allows every being to read one of the most important documents of the Mexicatl civilisation. A must-have and a must-read.

This is an excellent, first class work translating an original manuscript of an interview of a native Mexica shortly after the conquest replete with Aztec myths, creation legends and history. For anyone seriously interested in Aztec times, its a "must".As best as I can tell, it is an unfiltered, unbiased and neutral printing of the informant's own words with many helpful explanatory notes..

The book is an excellent base for the study of prehispanic Mexico. It is extremely useful also for the student of Nahuatl language because it also offers the full original version of these texts in the companion volume. It gives a slightly different point of view to these two fundamental texts from the spanish translation by Primo Feliciano Velazquez. Although less poetic than the spanish version, it is probably closer to the litteral meaning of the nahuatl original, and thus very useful for the understanding of each fragment separately. It is a classical work which can be bought in full confidence.

This seems to be the gold standard in the field, and deservedly so. I've seen it selected as the book for almost every intro Informatics course I've been exposed to. I've read all but three chapters (13,15, and 21) of it and found that in general the chapters are quite strong. Because it is an edited volume the quality and style of the chapters are mixed. The chapters are, without exception, meticulously sourced making the references section a real gem. The questions at the end of the chapter wouldn't be close to adequate for a self study book (I'd say they are only slightly more than perfunctory).I think this book has two limitations: - Lacks any substantive cross chapter continuity (on the upside this means it can really be read in almost any order). - The chapter length to depth ratio is unfavorable. At an average of 40ish pages the chapters should really be able to get into real technical depth; instead, it seems to gloss over the technical details with repetitions of "gee whiz" platitudes.I think this book has one annoyance: - A lot of the contents (particularly in the first few chapters of the book) have an "in the future we'll all drive flying cars" feel that makes them more dated than the publication date would suggest.Bottom line: best-of-breed, recommended.

This book covers comprehensive topics in biomedical informatics and its applications. In particular, UNIT I (Recurrent themes in biomedical informatics) presents biomedical knowledge which are essential to computer professionals for effective system development. On the other hand, UNIT II (Biomedical informatics applications) provides useful illustrations of current information systems in the field. I reckon that the most interesting applications are Consumer Health Informatics and Telehealth; Imaging Systems in Radiology and Clinical Decision Support Systems.

I am using this book in a graduate level course and find it to be very complete in its discussion of this broad topic. The author, Shortliffe, is now President of the American Medical Informatics Association. If you purchase this book, you will be doing best to get just the textbook, and not the digital version, the so-called "Upgrade" to read online.The annotations features for highlighting and leaving bookmarks are almost always "temporarily unavailable". I was surprised to find out today that I had reached the "usage limit" on reading my book online, and was denied further access. That was a pretty big shock to me, as I had paid to be able to access the book when i did not want to carry around the rather heavy textbook.When you are locked out of the book, you are not given any method for rectifying this except to send an email to customer service.I won't be purchasing the digital media "Upgrades" to any more Amazon books.Despite that experience, you will be very happy you bought this if you have any interest in biomedical informatics. Note that this does focus on the "medical" side of biomedical informatics, and is not a bioinformatics primer.

In my opinion overly general information. No algorithms or methods of implementation, even at a high level or schematic. Got it as required reading for a course. 3rd edition is essentially same for real purposes. OK for getting some paper (degree) to advance a bureaucratic or other career, but not really for anything useful. Doesn't mean sales shouldn't be good with AHCA creating a new army of the aforementioned.

The cover is the best part of the book. I bought the book because one reviewer said he laughed on every page, but he must be easily amused, because I never laughed once. The author relates how she got dysentery, malaria and a dislocated knee while traveling, and how she was frightened by dogs, monkeys and prostitutes. Good travel writers can transform misfortune into interesting stories because of affection for the countries and people visited, or at least a good eye for detail. Ten minutes after reading the book, I couldn't remember any of the countries the author traveled through or any of the people she met except for one monk who liked to swim. The people she described most were her disfunctional boyfriends. The last chapter is typical, where she relates her non-adventure of staying in the hotel room with the baby while everybody else goes out and has fun. The only reason I read the whole book was because I had a back spasm and I was too uncomfortable to get up and get another book. Now I wish I had just thrown it against the wall and taken a nap instead.

i have a slight and manageable learning disability that makes reading a bit of a chore, so if a book doesn't hold my interest, i don't read it. and i read this book start to finish and enjoyed every bit of it with the exception of the author's too-evocative description of her dislocated knee (perhaps because i'm a nurse it was too easy visualize).anyway.........the style is fluid and friendly, the stories are alternately funny andevocative and it's got the ability to create the 'you were there' feeling necessary to distinguish one travel book from the hundreds of travel books written by people who shouldn't write travel books.Best praise i can offer: i'm now going to search out her other books

Excellent travel book, while I wouldn't like to travel with her I like be to read her, very funny book!

Will someone please recommend me a great female travel writer!! I am somewhat like Ayun to a small degree; have my backpacking experiences that are crazy, have had many travels on a shoestring budget, and had my share of shady characters and illnesses on the road- but she was actually kind of a boring writer who also did not always use common sense. Someone else criticized her shoestring budget or referred to her travelling as "poverty" travel. Well, I do not know her personal financial situation in the States, but most of us backpackers choose to try to see as much as we can on the road which involves staying in some dives, using sqat toilets (most non-western countries only have these) and we do have to count every penny- she was just living the life of a typical backpacker who is not travelling on her parents dime (I assume this was her situation). I have used some of her same techniques in the past to stretch my dollar such as sleeping in airports (pre-9/11), sleeping in bus stations, couch surfed, and living on the bread, yogurt, and cheese diet. I do not have to be in the Hilton to have a good time and I want to be able to keep as much of my savings for emergencies and enable myself to see as many countries as possible. However, I do agree with her critics in regards to spending her precious money on alcohol and drugs; that is just plain stupid!In my travels, I have witnessed so many fellow hostel mates who cannot seem to go a day without smoking a joint and I agree that is such a waste of money and dangerous. I do not like the attitude that I see of such types who seem to believe that because they are from the West, that they will be exempt from the law. I think that these types should watch some episodes of "Locked Up Abroad" before setting foot on the plane. She was foolish and very lucky on her journeys in this regard. I did however like her narration of those starving days on the road- the shoestring budget while watching everyone scarf down a good meal. I usually reserve my finances for a few good meals, but she would have encountered some delicious economical meals in some of the countries that she chose.I was hoping to read a funny book about the backpacker's experiences from the female perspective. Hoping she encountered some of the crazy, unique things that us women embark on- ie- marriage proposals from strangers, the need for head scarfs, cat calls, ect... but I didn't get much of that from this book. Her France trip with her mother only entailed a discussion of a fashion show and her eagerness to get home to her boyfriend. Her trip to Amsterdam was somewhat enlightening but still a bit flat. I liked reading the typical swindling that she encountered in India(glad to read someone else who also got in the same type of tourist trap). Her trip to Romania also seemed to give me some insight into the lives and culture of the Romanian college kids. However, I found myself skipping many parts and a bit bored. I was hoping for some more humor and feel for the culture and the locals. Her trip to Edinburgh only involved the discussion of her theater production and child caring problems. Over all, some of this book had a few laughs and good tips and is worth a read if you buy it used. Meanwhile, I will stick to Paul Theroux and Chuck Thompson until I can find some good female travel narratives. And yes, I have read "Whose Panties are These" and "Women's Travel Stories" 2008, and most of them were dry as well. So the search is still on!

As someone who once traveled on a beach-sleeping budget, I was very excited to see that my favorite mothering memoirist (Ayun Halliday, The Big Rumpus) had written a book about her far flung travels. It was especially a bonus that most of the travels were to places I had not quite made it to. Ayun is a traveler after my own heart, with a drive to really step off the beaten path (and sometimes tumble painfully off of it) and immerse herself in the local culture; questionable food stalls, dark alleys, remote villages and all. My favorite aspect of the writing is the author's knack for a well turned phrase: you never know what you'll get after a comma! Lots of laughs, usually. The way she adds details to a description, building up the comedy and the unexpected factor, is hilarious. I'm also game for good accounts of psychedelic experiences, and there are some crazy ones here.The author sets herself apart from the typical "omg, did you get that at Gap?" American backpacker. Her analytical musings on a variety of situations highlight the unexpected. The quest of the travels seems to be to find something that is interesting and different from the regular day to day of western existence back home. Sometimes the author finds moments of bliss in a zen-like way, in the small things; the way a sparse hotel room's walls end in latticework that continues up to the ceiling, or in a gorilla's roar. It's these moments that hit the nail on the head in terms of meeting an expectation imagined when still at home, dreaming of traveling. More often though, are the moments of anti-bliss, which illustrate the flipside of the totally foreign travel experience. The author's unflappable spirit in the face of random thieves, illnesses, and scary dogs, makes this book a giggle-inducing page turner 'til the end.

I can’t rave enough about this cookbook! We purchased a pop up camper and are newbies to camping for the most part. Loved her information on setting up the camp kitchen, cooking in bear country, beginner advice on cast iron camp cooking etc. Information was there but brief and inclusive of what you need. The book visually is beautiful and well organized. She has “use it up” tips on ingredients which is helpful. The recipes themselves seem very doable and not so “gourmet” that everyone wouldn’t like them. We aren’t meat eaters and there were many veg recipes in the book (or ones easy to modify.)I recognized her from her Garden Betty website and took a chance on this book. My only complaint can’t really be helped and it’s that the book is large and a bit heavy.

I gave this as a gift to my Scoutmasters in our boyscout's troop. They like to be creative when they camp and don't just cook hotdogs and beans. They found great ideas and camping tips in addition to the ones they already are trained to know. The recipes in here aren't your typical cowboy camp recipes...perhaps the modern, and better fed cowboy.

Full of recipes for sauces and condiments that I'd heard of but never seen anywhere. There are also fantastic side dishes, the Mexican Street Corn Salad has become the most requested recipe I've ever made for parties and family gatherings. And the Chai Tea Concentrate is always in my fridge now. Get your copy soon, this is an excellent cookbook.

We purchase this book for our last camping trip and fell in love with it instantly. My Husband and I do a lot of car camping (borderline glamping) and it was a nice addition to our camp menu. Some of the recipes are slightly involved (I can’t imagine only cooking from this for our entire trip) but it was fun to substitute a few special meals. Easy to follow instructions and helpful tips. One tip is make sure you prep as much as you can before you leave for your trip. If you are looking to make something a little more than hot dogs, biscuits and jerky this book is for you.

Hands down the best book I’ve read on outdoor cooking!! Good all around techniques and great recipes to take your camping experience to the next level. We have been camping and cooking for over 15 years and mainly have done the basics plus some experimenting with Dutch oven. This book made us rethink how to make great food even while camping. Easy to follow and contains lists of what ingredients to pack and what supplies to collect and bring for what you want to do. Contains recipes for breakfast, lunch, supper as well as snacks!

It is exactly what I was looking for in a gourmet camp cookbook! It’s a great quality hardback book with amazing pictures and easy to understand recipes. They even give helpful tips for how to create the best camp kitchen. Even though it’s technically a camping cookbook, you can obviously make the recipes at home too, over the grill or in the oven. I’m making the Moroccan chicken and tomato mint salad next week. Yum.

A few years ago I became terribly ill and am partially bedridden, it was during this time God showed me one phrase in the Bible that stuck out as if I had never seen it before - TRUST GOD. The words of The Cure are like the pieces of a jigsaw puzzle, coming together at just the right time, which provide a bigger picture of everything God has shown me since then and everything is built around trusting God.Everything you already knew, which God has been telling you all along, is confirmed in the words of this book. You are not imagining it when you think to yourself, “the people at church are no doubt nice people, and I know many of them love the Lord and want to help, but something doesn’t seem right because the scripture seems to be saying something other than what they are saying it means.” The confusion comes from GOOD INTENTIONED PEOPLE TRYING TO MIX OLD COVENANT LAW AND NEW COVENANT GRACE, this is the very reason many of the epistles were written! That is the Judaizer religion then spoke and fought against.Let go of the old covenant law, it was written for the Israelites at the foot of the mountain and no one else. That old covenant was broke and then replaced with God’s new covenant of grace, mercy, love and life by the spirit in and through the person of Jesus Christ and Him in you.Trust Jesus and rest in his love. Relax and know he is for you and not against you. Have faith in him and not the judaizer religion, rules, laws or regulations that were passed down to you. They won’t save you, but Jesus THE SAVIOR will!This is a masterpiece of truth, don’t pass it up.Another couple excellent books to read are “The faith that pleases God - You don’t need to strive for what you already have” and “Classic Christianity.” By Bob George. They say the same thing as The Cure.Other suggested readings are from authors Bob Christopher and Andrew Farley, “Simple gospel, Simply grace” and “The Naked Gospel” respectively.

I grew up in a church that taught us that working hard for my salvation would make sure that I was in a place that I was pleasing God. This book took that incorrect theology and turned it on its head. God desires for us to trust him. And out of that trust for him, we will experience his love in a much deeper way. I cannot recommend this book enough. GREAT FOR SMALL GROUPS! I carry an extra copy with me most places I go. You never know when you might run into a recovering pleaser!

“The Cure: What if God isn’t who you think He is and neither are you” is a book co-authored by John Lynch, Bruce McNicol, and Bill Thrall. The idea behind the book is to open people’s eyes to the truth of God’s grace. The authors utilize a parable type of delivery to get their point across. There’s a man traveling a road and reaches a cross-road. Down one path is a building filled with people to are seeking to find hope, purpose, and salvation through their works, and down the other path a building full of people relying on God’s grace alone. The delivery seems well intentioned, but a bit clumsy to me. While it was easy to understand, I never really connected with parable.There is still plenty in the book to like however. This one is absolutely full of highlighter worthy moments. Some of my favorite quotes from the book:“No one told me that when I wear a mask, only my mask receives love”.“Bacterial infections often keep spreading poison until antibiotics are introduced. You can dress nicer and comb your hair all you want, but you’ll only be a well-dressed sick person with nicely combed hair”.“If I follow the first path, I’m trying to change from who I was into who I should be. If I follow the second, I’m maturing into who I already am. In the first, I’m working toward becoming righteous. In the second, I’m already righteous, made right by God in the moment I believed”.All in all, I’m a little torn on this book. I thought a lot of it was a slow read, but I also found many strong points in it as well. I do think we take for granted God’s amazing grace and few fully comprehend the transaction that took place through the cross and resurrection – Christ becoming sin and us becoming the righteousness of God. But there is a large contingency out there who are following a “hyper-grace” theology and while this book never dives completely into that camp, it could walk close to that line for those reading it who don’t have a firm biblical foundation. I don’t think this book is for everyone, and I don’t see it as a “must read” like many other reviewers have stated. I do however see value in the book and for some people it could certainly be of strong benefit.

Reading the 97 pages of The Cure was one of the most freeing experiences of my Christian walk, and that's why it's now the sixth book on my "must-read" list.Don't be fooled by this book's small size. It's packed with truth like few others; accessible by all and applicable to all.Having been raised in a traditional religious system, I lived much of my life with an inaccurate view of God and of myself. Over the years, I've been able to fix the flawed foundation upon which my faith was built. However, a book such as The Cure would have saved me untolled years and struggles.Without spoiling anything for the reader, I'll say only that if you believe that our sin separates us from our Heavenly Father, this book will be a godsend (pun intended).No matter whether you consider yourself a new follower or a mature follower, your faith walk will benefit from reading The Cure.

Just what I was looking for. Amazing episode guide for many of the Simpsons episodes, it breaks down the episodes in so many ways and gives great information on stuff you may have missed. My copy arrived in great condition.

I love the Simpson's. So obviously I love this book. Its for the true Simpson's lover.

Pricy for a book was my initial though but it's of very high quality with every page being in color. Great collector item.

Essential for any fan of the quasi-classic sitcom. Gives even the most ardent fan of the show a comprehensive, step by step insider's look at the show. All the bits, hidden to overt at your finger tips. Could not put it down(at least with out the aid of a hi-lo for fear of blowing out my back) due to it's massive size and weight. A gym membership would be well considered before lifting this humongous book in all it's gloriously red colored, bloated splendor. Even has beautifully crafted paper wrapped cardboard box to protect this most significant literary work. (Cheesy, Matt Groening had to have a hand in it's design) I being the most loyal Simpson maniac you'll ever find found myself laughing out loud all by my lonesome as I perused the unending pages of satirical insanity. Simply put, if you are a Simpsons fanatic like me this is an absolute must have. The only book even on plane with this as far as social importance and relevance might be The Bible...maybe!

An absolute must for the serious Simpsons fan. Takes off from the earlier episode guides with two full color pages for each episode. Lots of fun facts and trivia. Basically just a total blast to look through. I bought it for myself, but if someone had purchased it for me, I would love them forever. A great gift for the true fan. If you know someone who can't get through a conversation without at least one Simpsons reference, this is the ultimate gift for them. May seem a bit pricy, but at 8.8 lbs., it is worth every penny. Chock full of every song lyric, blackboard saying and "mmmmmm" moment in addition to the episode guides (seasons 1-20 only) and guest star appearance. In fact there is so much stuff here, I can't even remember it all. Buy it. Buy me Simpsons World ( I mean bonestorm) or go to hell! see? I can't even write a review without a Simpsons quote.

This is such a great book, a perfect addition for any fan!

This excellent book is simply a "must have" resource for any serious Simpson's fan. It contains a wealth of information not available from any other source. Well packaged and shipped quickly!

On the very big positive side of the book, we get a big guide of the Simpsons episodes, characters and a lot of other things here and there. We get boatloads of quotes, funny images and hilarious sidenotes. Plus, we even have descriptions on the couch gags and Itchy and Scratchy. The negative view is the book is missing seasons 21-26, so it is outdated and the book does`nt cover the Simpsons games and movie, giving us an empty feeling as we read through the book. But still, you will get a big kick out of reading this book if you are a huge Simpsons fan.
