Not only a history of Alaska , but also many stories from his family's friends that were the foundation toopening that great state to the world.Need to reed both books to receive the full story of the Iditarod.

A read for all. Very detailed history disclosing a well-written account of what happened. Incredible. Recommend highly. Thank you.

The book was in excellent condition for the price I paid. Plus, to my surprise it was signed by the author. I know it is the author's signature because I have the same signature in his Volumn 2 which I received in person in Alaska.map

If you find yourself walking down 4th Avenue in downtown Anchorage, stop by and visit with Rob Perry, the author of this book. I say visit, rather than just look or buy a book, because Rod is a raconteur of the first degree. He is out there with his dog all day long (and the days can be long there) and loves to converse. About anything. Absolutely anything. Rob is well read, well spoken and tells the truth about all things Alaska. I fancy myself a writer and visited Rod several times to expand my mind on a variety of subjects. Be it the young couple visiting from Israel or the kid carrying a skateboard, Rod could engage them in an intelligent and knowing conversation that catches most by surprise and delight.After finishing both of Rod's volumes, I feel I not only know Alaska on a first name basis, but feel the hopelessness, enthusiasm and longing of the spirit that formed Alaska. I got goose bumps typing the previous sentence, because it is now part of me.I will return to Anchorage in mid-May (by Rod's advise) to introduce my wife to my (and everyone's) friend, Rod.

Walk down Main Street in Anchorage, Alaska and you can buy a copy of this book and it's sequel straight from Rod Perry. He'll sign them for you and tell you even more Alaska stories. Every person interested in Alaska should own copies of these books by Rod Perry. I remember as a kid reading the book about Libby Riddle, the first woman to win the Iditarod, and Rod Perry was one of the people who showed up a number of times in her book. Alaska is a place where people can still dream. This book shows you why.

I'm a big fan of the Iditarod Sled Dog Race and even give presentations about it at our local elementary school, so I was really excited when I heard about this book and couldn't wait to read it. I'm almost 1/2 way through it (page 190 of 334 pages) and I'm FINALLY getting to something about the town of Iditarod. If I wouldn't have paid good money for this, I WOULD NOT still be reading it! In fact, several times within the first 25 pages, I put it down and seriously considered not bothering with the rest of the book.IF you're a fan of who did what, when and where, then this book will probably please you. IF you know A LOT about the geography of the Yukon Territory in Canada (without looking at maps) then you will probably enjoy this book. If not, then don't bother buying it.The author goes into great detail about who did what and when concerning looking for gold in the Yukon Territory. Unfortunately, he mentions so many people and so many locations, without having enough maps, that it is difficult to comprehend it all or to keep everything straight.He switches between several speakers with each giving his/her own rendition of the SAME incident, which is boring. Even more annoying is his inclusion of French phrases, without giving the reader any clue as to their meaning in English.Before you go out and buy this book, check with your library to see if you can borrow it. That way you won't waste your money purchasing a copy. Since it's a paperback, it wouldn't even make a good door stop.

This is the second of three volumes from Richard Matheson. He is one of my very favorite short story writers. Some of my favorite stories from this volume would be: Slaughter House, The Doll that Does Everything, The Children of Noah, Old Haunts, and pretty much all of the rest. He's just a fantastic writer that I can read again and again.At 453 pages, it keeps you in your reading chair for quite a while.

Stories included in Volume II:-Slaughter House-Trespass-The Wedding-Wet Straw-Being-The Conqueror-The Curious Child-Dear Diary-Descent-The Doll That Does Everything-The Man Who Made the World-The Test-The Traveller-When Day is Dun-Dance of the Dead-The Funeral-Miss Stardust-One for the Books-Pattern for Survival-A Flourish of Strumpets-A Splendid Source-Steel-A Visit to Santa Claus-The Children of Noah-The Holiday Man-Lemmings-Old Haunts-The Distributor-The Edge

There are some amazing stories in this collection and I haven't read them since high school. Holiday Man, the Children of Noah, the Distributor and just about every other story in the collection. There is one problem, typos, typos, typos! There is at least one typo per story and sometimes it is a big distraction. Otherwise, if you want to own some amazing stories by one of our best writers, get these books. Minus one star for the typos.

Difficult to pick just one descriptive since it IS an anthology! Some are great; some not so great. But all are quality.

Great writing -- I wish he had more available in hardcover!

In between more lengthy novels this is great reading. Wonderful stories, each different and each a treat. Great for travel, waiting in the doctor's office or just enjoying a superb author's wit and vision.

Not many reviews on this good book. Anyone who wants to take an algebraic-logic approach to common lisp, this book is worth reading. The dialect used in the book is common lisp. Don't be put off by the fact that it was published in 1990. the CL commands/syntax used works fine with my copy of clozure common lisp.This is my favourite book on Lisp so far. Tied in first is also The Little/Seasoned/Reasoned Schemer series. I attempted SIPL (2nd Ed., MIT Press), but it was too difficult for my current level of understanding.

I am doing masters in computer science. This book is one of the book we are using for our class. I found the book is easy to understand and describes the subject well enough. I just started learning Lisp and after I started to reading the book I do not have any trouble to understand terms or etc. even if english is not my first language. The book has nice examples related with Lisp programming and if there is a given more example will be a lot more useful for the students.It will be a lot better if the book prices little cheaper. I believe book is out of print from the publisher, so if the authors take the copyrights and put the book on the web and let the students or teachers to print the book with acceptable cost that will be great. Thank you

My teenage grandson suffers with anxiety, since his mother (my daughter), took her life 4 years ago. He said that the workbook helped a little, and that it was okay. He said some parts were good, and others didn't help at all. At least he took the time to use it! That says a lot! Thank you.

This series of teen workbooks is one of the most valuable resources I have found for counseling my at risk teenage students! I purchased the anxiety, anger, self esteem and overcoming negative feelings handbooks and I was honestly nervous. So many of the tools avaliable to address teen needs are dated and are taken as nothing but a joke by those they are designed to help. My 6th-12th graders happily and often eagerly engage in the questionnaires and activities in these books! They also have told me that they feel like they really do help. That in and of itself is worth it to me!

If you have a teenager who suffers from excessive anxiety, this is the best book out there. As a parent and as someone with a degree in Clinical Psychology, this earns my seal of approval. It's simple to use, but backed by the science.

I am a therapist who was looking for a good workbook w/ tools to help w/ anxiety for my adolescent population. Although this workbook has some good materials it seems to be more appropriate for preteen or younger teens. Which is still helpful for me. For parents looking for a good workbook I would recommend this book for kids 11 through 14 or 15. Older than that I would look into books geared toward adults, as I think older teens would find this book immature.

Bought for my granddaughter who has Aspergers and some health issues cropping up. She says she likes it a lot, that it helps

Worst book ever. This book causes/creates anxiety. It's nothing but a big notebook. Barely any information just 200 pages to write your v feelings. The activities on EVERY page are super stressful. Im throwing this book in the trash. It's useless

Experienced historian Mark Stille here examines the matchup between the fleet submarines of the Imperial Japanese Navy and the U.S. Navy fleet destroyers who were supposed to defend against their threat. The time period of this evaluation is 1941-1942. Both sides were operating with their prewar weapons and tactics, while the Pacific War still hung in the balance.The author first examines the IJN submarine and USD destroyer inventories for strengths and weakness, then surveys the results of actual combat. In what was a surprise for this reviewer, IJN submarines are shown to have been more successful than they are usually given credit for, despite a faulty targeting doctrine. It is also clear that USN destroyers had not yet mastered anti-submarine warfare tactics. The text includes lots of period photographs and modern illustrations. Well recommended as excellent coverage of a neglected topic of the Second World War.

More than 1/2 this book is spent in brief reviews of the classes of Japanese submarines and American destroyers. Very little space is spent describing the destroyers tactics. No comparisons are made of the number of sinkings by American or German submarines to compare with the IJN. Even though I like these Osprey titles in this series this one is a waste.

9Excellent debunking. of Japan's submarines were wasted myth. A good precise analysis. Excellent pictures and technical information on early war sun destroyers and Japanese submarines. Analysis is by battle narrative analys not statistical analysis.

I'd say if you need detailed information about the WWII combat events of IJN Fleet Submarines x USN Fleet Destroyers that may be used for fast consulting this book is one to be on your bookshelf. And yet we always get more need for photo coverage...
