About the Author
Khenchen Palden Sherab Rinpoche (1938–2010) was born in eastern Tibet. He received his early education at Gochen Monastery and his higher education as a khenpo at Riwoche Monastery. He and his family escaped from Tibet in 1960. In 1965 Khenchen Rinpoche was asked by H.H. Dudjom Rinpoche to represent the Nyingma lineage as a founding member of the Central University for Tibetan Studies in Sarnath, India, where Khenchen taught Buddhist philosophy for seventeen years. In the early 1980s Khenchen Rinpoche moved to New York to work closely with Dudjom Rinpoche, and in 1988 he and his brother Khenpo Tsewang Dongyal Rinpoche founded the Padmasambhava Buddhist Center, which has monasteries and dharma centers in the United States, India, and Russia. Khenchen Rinpoche wrote over thirty books in Tibetan and English.

I was deeply affected in ways I wouldn’t have imagined possible by reading a book on logic. Because it is an authentic text to help the student use reasoning to gain certainty about the nature of mind, I decided to read it. (Normally, other gates to Dharma are more appealing to me, especially devotion.) But I’m SO glad I read this. I feel as though I should study it more carefully to truly do it justice, but even this first reading yielded insights which inspired me. Often I felt “oh, I know this line of reasoning, it seems obviousâ€, but having the cognitive logic laid out and dissected really shifted something in me. As Mipham writes, this path of logic brings confidence in realizing the true nature of mind. The translator's introduction provided a very helpful framework for approaching the book. Highly recommended, even for those, like me, who tend to avoid Dharma texts based on logic.
A perfect book if you want to understand topics like direct perception, inference, logical reasonings in buddhism, how to ascertain emptiness beyond concepts and duallity, the two truths and even more!Mipham is one of the gratest scholar's in Tibet's history IMHO, and Khenchen Sherab's commentary really brings all Mipham's wisdom out so we can also absorb it for the benefit of all beings!It's also a great book to start a serious study of Madhyamaka since it gives you the basics of reasoning and interpretation of meanings. So beginners and experienced practitioners will certainly benefit!
