Years gone by, I absolutely loved Chiltons; this time, I'm not very pleased. First off, I'm a woman with just a tad mechanical experience. No offense to other ladies out there.Bought this for an '03 Avalon. CEL (Check Engine Light) was on for my Heated O2 Sensor, Bank 1 Sensor 1. LOL, I got much, much better information from the internet and Toyota sites. This book references the OBDII, but rather than the "Bank" and "Sensor", this brilliant book simply lists "Primary (Upstream)" and "Secondary (Downstream)". THAT was a real pain! Why can't/don't they stick with the program and PROPER WORDING/Terms for the OBDII tools and what's wrong??Another thing, from My Understanding (which I could be wrong) from reading all the Toyota Tech sites, ALL Toyota's "O2" sensors are actually "Heated Oxygen Sensors". This book makes the distinction between the two types of sensors and how they work (which I liked), BUT, (maybe it was just my year car) Book was warning in "don't confuse the two". Heated Oxygen Sensors are all that are on the Avalon. ALSO, this book only mentions TWO Sensors. It's been a while since I researched and worked on, but this car has either 3 or 4 sensors, but this book only references two.The other things I wanted to do with/on car, the book doesn't really tell much. Disappointed with purchase overall, though some of the photos and descriptions/instructions might come in handy in the future.
I think everyone who owns a car, should own the repair manual to that car. There are so many things that you can fix yourself without paying the high cost of taking it to a repair shop. If I have to take it to the shop, I take the repair manual with me and ask the mechanic to show me the problem in the manual. This can prevent you from paying for a problem that your car doesn't really have and it also may make the mechanic think you know more than you think you do. Ha!
I thought the manual would be a little more detailed. I have a few chilton books for older cars and they were pretty good. this one is just o.k. for me. I bought to check out the power steering system but there wasn't much of what I needed. had to do the hose replacement on the fly.
Chilton has always been the best manual for car repairs and it still is. Us women usually need a little extra help. Thanks Chilton!

Chilton manuals, in my opinion, are vastly superior to Haynes. Definitely a best bu tool. I buy them before I need them.
