This cookbook isn't much on pictures and color. So if you want that, then this isn't the cookbook for you. However if you want great Columbian recipes this is a cookbook you should get. For example, one of my friends from Columbia once showed me how to bake pandebono. If you've never had it, you have to try it. And the author of this book states basically the same. But after my friend left, I accidentally had lost my pandebono recipe and I'd tried re-creating them to that great recipe I once had. I've tried other cookbooks and either couldn't find pandebono or if they had it the recipe was off. I also had tried recipes from online and many of them were off too. But this one has it right on the mark. Not too many eggs. Just the right amount of masa or corn meal . Then your yucca starch and a fresh white cheese (I like to use queso de frier if you have Market Baskets and are on the east coast).It doesn't take much looking in this cookbook to see that you are getting authentic Columbian recipes that are written the right way. You may want to do a little research on the ingredients though so you can find them in the store.

This is the absolute BEST Colombian cookbook you will ever find. I bought the original a few years ago. I was amazed by the recipes that this book had. It was as if my Abuela was right in the kitchen with me. I then bought more copies for my sisters and cousins. I finally gave my personal copy to my brother about a year ago. I woke up the other night thinking about this book. I was ecstatic to see that there were even MORE recipes and color pictures! My mother's family is from the coastal town of Santa Marta. Many of these dishes are familiar. Those that aren't, I have either tried or am willing to. Patricia has done an amazing job with her detailed explanations and instructions for each dish.There is no better tasting food in the world to me than Colombian food. I enjoy cooking it as much as I enjoy serving, sharing and eating it!

I was looking for a Colombian cooking book that would help me find the names of ingredients (names of herbs, what cut of meat to use etc) of dishes I sort of knew how to cook. This book not only did that but offered alternatives using products you can find in American supermarkets. But the most important thing about this book (and I can't stress it enough) is that the recipes are fantastic! After I made my mom the Arroz con Pollo (she was visiting from Colombia) she said that was one of the best she ever had. I loved the author's brief descriptions of Colombia and personal pictures of her cooking with her family as a child, it feels like you are cooking with a Colombian friend. If you have never tried Colombian food or already are an enthusiast that has a craving for Colombian food this book is for you.

This cookbook is perhaps too authentic. I don’t have access to a regular supply of guinea pigs and plantain leaves in Ohio. This is an English version of a legit Colombian cookbook if I am not mistaken. If that is what you need, than you are in for a treat.

Our adopted son is from Barranquilla, so between our exposure to the food while in Colombia and our own son's knowledge, this book is the real deal. He loves helping follow and cook the recipes from the book. We are fortunate to have several Latin food markets in our area, so ingredients haven't been a real issue. There are some recipes that have shorter, less involved versions out there that are just as good, but love the book.

My best friend is Colombian and turned me on to regional food (a lot like Mexican without all the lard, cheese and hot chilis) To have a tamale that doesn't taste & feel like lead was a pure joy, Colombian tamales are light & fluffy....delicious. His mom (like all Colombian women) kept all the recipes in her head, handed down from generation to generation by "doing" never by writing them out so she could only say "oh a handful of this, a pinch of that" therefore trying to duplicate her recipes after her visits was impossible. Now we have a cookbook and although I haven't tried the recipes yet, all of my favorites are in there and seem to be very consistent with his mom's, I can't wait to try them, let alone give a copy of this book to my friend.

This has been a wonderful purchase. I can now make the tasty recipes that I tasted when visiting Colombia! I've cooked up a few of the recipes and the seasoning is perfect to our tastes. It's like making Mexican food with a very healthy slant to it (without all the lard, corn, etc). The Frisoles Antioquenos (Antioqueno red beans) are so fabulous! I love this cookbook and look forward to trying so many more recipes!

I've been searching for an English language Colombian cook book, and Secrets of Colombian Coooking fits the bill. The ajiaco recipe is fantastic - my family loved it. Of course, it helps that I had guascas (dried, but still!). All the other recipes I've tried have been equally well received - the tips and photos help to ensure the ability to create delicious Colombian food in an American kitchen. One small quibble is that the book does not provide information or adjustments for hard to find ingredients (panela, freijoa, etc).

I'm really enjoying this cookbook so far, but wish the author would be more specific in her list of ingredients. For example, in the recipe for Ajicao Bogotano many of the ingredients are for specific amounts (1 tsp, 1 pound) but then she says 4 chicken breasts rather than how many pounds of meat, and she says 36 small white potatoes, 24 medium gold potatoes, etc. rather than a weight. It's not a big deal, but my store only had huge white potatoes and I would have liked to prepare a weight equivalent since it was my first time to cook the soup.

This book is a quick overview of XML and related topics. It covers XML basics, DTD, XML Schemas, XSL/XSLT, XPath, XSL-FO, more recent versions (XSLT 2.0/XQuery 1.0/etc), as well as XML based technologies such as Ajax, RSS, SOAP, WSDL, ODF, etc. It does not go into any of the topics in depth and it does not provide sufficient examples for learning and exploring. The way I see it the book is an overview, not a self instruction book.I have some experience with XML but not from Web Development. The contexts where I’ve come across XML are databases, communication, and data storage related to images. However, I felt that I needed to get more familiar with XML in a broader context. This book served its purpose and it was fairly easy to read and very well organized. My only complaint was that it was perhaps a little bit too concise. I read it in conjunction with a self instruction book (Student’s Guide to XSLT), which gave you more hands on experience.

I give this a 5-star because it totally satisfies it's expectations *relative* to what it was intended for, i.e. as the title suggests, it is meant as a fast jump start to create / learn XML, rather than an exhaustive or expert-level book. It will also make a good desk reference for some common commands, features, etc.My very first programming book was the "Perl and CGI" Quickstart book from this same series in about 14 years ago. I loved that book, and it turned out to be my first stepping stone to IT. This book continues with that tradition as it helped me quickly figure out how to reverse-engineer a simple XSD schema needed to import a vendor's XML data feed to SQL using SSIS.

XLM Visual Quickstart Guide is everything that the other reviewers have said. I used in a college introductory course, and students did very well. There is one caveat that nobody has mentioned; all the code samples are written in tiny, light, pastel-colored type face on semigloss paper--pink, sky-blue, peach, chartreuse, and teal. Some code samples are almost impossible to read. Fortunately, all the code samples are available on line in clear, large print for download. If you purchase this book, you will most likely have to download the code samples.

I read the xml specification or RFC and could not understand them. This book explains everything clearly. I would like to thank the author for writing such a clear and easy to read ebook on xml. XML is an excellent technology once you understand it. Buy this book if you want to learn XML.

This is one of my best purchases. I tend to grab expensive books on programming languages when I go to Barnes & Noble (or Borders before they closed), but I found this steal on Amazon and it's a great book on XML. I already know HTML and CSS though, so I don't know about those beginning. I taught myself html when I was 13 though, which was many years ago, so I'm sure a beginner can learn XML if need-be.

This book is a great way to get started if you have not done a lot of HTML and are looking for a way to get your feet wet with XML and it's interactions with HTML. It does a great job of step-by-step leading you through most of the basic concepts used in XML. If you don't know much about XML and want to get started and need a quick reference for figuring out what is going on in an XML file, this is a great starting point. It is compact and the approach is to explain something minimally and then show a example.There are example files to download that the book references. To get the most out of this book, you will have to download the examples.

Great book for learning XML, even if you have no programming experience. I used this years ago, and just bought it for a co-worker who is teaching it to herself. It's still very relevant if your company still uses XML for documentation.

Not much detail and of little help.

This is for my husband for Christmas. It book is in great condition. I can't wait to see his face.

Most was very informative and easy to follow.

This book is a must read for anyone fooling with old radio's. This is in excellent shape! The info in this book goes from start to finish.

Very good book for repairing antique radios. Although it does get very technical. A very hard to find book. I got a great deal on this.

Making pancakes sounds like such a trivial task but as with anything I do in the kitchen, I try to make it as authentic as possible. This book seems really good so far. We've only tried the buttermilk pancakes but the kids and hubby love them. Will be trying more varieties for sure.

This book was very helpful in several ways for both my 15 year old daughter who struggles with intense shyness/social anxiety and for me as a parent. My daughter felt relieved to know that she wasn't the only one to experience this and to realize that there is something she can do about how she is feeling. She felt understood as she was reading the explanations and examples that explained exactly how she was feeling and thinking in her own mind. It was also helpful for her to recognize what thoughts were correlated with those feelings, which took some time to really figure out at first. As a parent it's so helpful to know how to work on this and what steps to take that will be most effective. Now we are using the methods in this book over and over to practice and to slowly but surely overcome her social anxiety. The one thing that would make this book better is if they would include the worksheets separately in the back of the book or provide a website to download them once you buy the book so you can continue to make copies and practice. I've purchased other books that provide this and it allows you to really keep using the book to practice. As you're using the workbook and writing in it sometimes it's too late when you realize you've written on a page that you'd like to keep reusing for practice because just doing it once in the workbook is definitely not enough to overcome social anxiety. So don't write in the book if you want to be able to make copies and keep practicing!

I am a therapist in private practice who bought this book for a 13 y/o teen who has poor self worth. It is written in appropriate language for a mature teen, with quality information on how social anxiety develops. The exercises helped her discover how her own distorted thinking contributed to her negative self beliefs & resulting shyness. I would recommend it highly.

This book helped my 12 year old so very much. It validated a lot of her feelings, helped her work through her social anxiety, and made her feel like she wasn't the only one.

While I don't work with teens, this book is useful for my adult clients as well. I like the book so much, I bought a copy for my teen nephew who struggles with shyness. My sister-in-law and brother both read the book. It helped them to understand what was happening with their son.While this book is intended for teens who struggle with overcoming shyness and social anxiety. It's easily applicable to help with all forms of anxiety. I understand Ms. Shannon is coming out with another book for teen anxiety. I can't wait to get my hands on that one too!

Due to growing isolation fueled by the explosion of technology and the over-reliance on electronic devices to socially connect, there is an increasing number of teens struggling with social skills. Teens with social anxiety don't always fit into one tidy description. Some are perfectionistic, hyper-critical of themselves. Others may be thin-skinned, hypersensitive to the input of those around them. Some have a hyper-responsive amygdala; the brain center that assesses threats and governs the fear response. Regardless of the origin of a teen's discomfort, this workbook has some valuable exercises for understanding and redirecting social avoidance behavior. I have found that using this workbook in my social-skills building classes creates a solid jumping off point for goal-setting, role-playing, and a reframing the teen's sense of themselves.

Bought several books and workbooks for my preteen daughter. This one is concise, easy to read, easy to understand and apply. It uses situations all kids can relate to and have probably witnessed or experienced. Ill have her add some thoughts when she finishes it.

This is a clearly written book. Some of my teens that have a history of challenges at school struggle to understand some of the ways things are explained but this is minor. The graphics/cartoons are very helpful and it is a great way to teach basic CBT and ACT skills in a thoughtful, structured way.

I have just started this with my shy child and it seems to have very good ideas. I believe it Well help. Good suggested activities.

This Baylor Press Hosea addition represents another quality product for the student familiar with Biblical Hebrew at an advanced level. The only drawback of these books in this series is there is no standard nomenclature. So, the terminology for esch can be quite varied making reading and understanding the analysis of one as compared to another quite challenging. For instance, the nomenclature for the handbook on Amos is pretty straightforward but the sames series on a Qohleth (Ecclesiastes) is almost unintelligible at times and very slow-going. And, I might add, I am a trained student of the Semitic Languages.
